Candidates must have a minimum of five years of security management experience, with at least three years in a security supervisory or management role. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor's degree can reduce the required experience to three years total, with two years in a supervisory or management capacity.
The ASIS-CPP exam is 3.5 hours long and consists of 225 multiple-choice questions. Candidates need to achieve a scaled score of 700 or higher on a scale of 200-800 to pass the exam.
The exam covers seven domains: security management fundamentals, security infrastructure, business continuity and disaster recovery, investigations, compliance and ethics, risk management, and personnel security. Each domain represents a percentage of the total exam questions and tests both knowledge and application of security principles.
There is no specified waiting period between exam attempts, allowing candidates to retake the exam as soon as they feel prepared. However, candidates must pay the full exam fee each time they register to sit for the test.
The ASIS-CPP certification must be renewed every three years through a combination of continuing professional education (CPE) credits and a renewal fee. Professionals can earn CPE credits through various activities including training courses, conferences, and professional reading.
